Google's Niantic Labs is a division within Google that functions like a start-up. It's lead by John Hanke, the creator of Google Earth and Google Street View. Niantic Labs is responsible for the Android app "Field Trip" and for the Alternate Reality Game associated with the Ingress Launch "The Niantic Project."
